KUALA LUMPUR: Police are probing army veteran Mohd Ali Baharom for accusing the men in blue of sleeping on the job after he was frustrated over the lack of arrests in the #TangkapMO1 rally.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar today revealed that Mohd Ali, better known as “Ali Tinju”, was being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code pertaining to intentional insult with intent to provoke.

“If police are sleeping on the job, the country wouldn’t be as peaceful as it is now.

“Whether or not we nab (the rally organisers), that is our job.

“He should just sit down and be quiet,” the nation’s top cop told reporters.

Khalid said police decided to investigate Mohd Ali after reports were lodged over the latter’s statement that was caught on video and posted on YouTube.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ali told reporters that his statement had been twisted by the media.

“If you listen to it in its entirety, police will realise that I just wanted them to act fairly.

“If we organise a rally and we are arrested, they too must be arrested,” he said alluding to the #TangkapMO1 rally organisers, who staged a protest demanding police arrest Malaysian Official 1.

He said this after giving his statement to the police at the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters.

Ali also said he would pay no attention to Khalid’s advice of staying out of police business, stating he had the right as a citizen to criticise the force.

The #TangkapMO1 rally which took place last Saturday attracted some 2,000 participants. It was reportedly organised by a group of students, headed by Anis Syafiqah.

“Malaysian Official 1”, who was the focus of the rally, was mentioned in court documents filed by the US Department of Justice to seize assets allegedly bought with funds embezzled from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
