RoS says it has no problem with the date considering the party's application has been properly presented.

PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) may be able to contest in the next general election after all.

The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has said there should be no problem for the Bumiputera-only party’s registration to be approved by Sept 9 this year, according to Bersatu’s pro-tem secretary Kamarulazman Habibur Rahman.

“During the meeting Muhyiddin Yassin had with the RoS yesterday evening, the latter said there was no reason for the party’s approval to be delayed.

“Muhyiddin also voiced hope for the approval to be given latest by Sept 9, 2016.

“The RoS said it had no objection over the date considering that our application was properly presented,” he said in a statement today.

Kamarulazman added that the party, led by Muhyiddin and chaired by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, had fulfilled all requirements for the establishment of a new political party.

The RoS was said to have expressed satisfaction over the efforts by Bersatu’s founding members, especially in implementing changes suggested by the registrar.

“We hope there will be no more obstacles in line with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s assurance that the application would be approved (if the party fulfilled all the standard requirements),” said Kamarulazman.

The formation of the new party was announced by Mahathir in July, who said the party would work alongside the federal opposition coalition of Pakatan Harapan, in an effort to topple Prime Minister Najib Razak and his Barisan Nasional government in the next general election.

The application form was submitted by Muhyiddin on Aug 9.
