Johor allocates RM50m to overcome Mersing water woes

Johor MB says state government will create 30km-long water displacement channel to aid water woes in Mersing district.

Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin
TANGKAK: The Johor Government has allocated RM50 million as an immediate measure to overcome the water crisis in the Mersing district.

Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin said, for a start, the state government decided to create a 30km-long water displacement channel to aid the Tenglu water plant in Sungai Lenggor.

“It is hoped it can solve the water woes in Mersing and its surrounding areas,” he told reporters after the Johor state-level National Day celebrations here today.

Khaled said the state government viewed the issue and water challenges seriously and was finding short and long-term solutions.

The state government had advanced the allocation before receiving funds from the Federal Government to address the issue, which would benefit the entire state, he said.
