MCA Religious Harmony Bureau head Ti Lian Ker said blaming Gerakan for exposing the scandal was “lame” and merely an attempt to divert attention from the real issue at hand.
“I call upon DAP to take responsibility for the perceived corruption and not play victim or attempt to whitewash any perceived culpability.
“To divert Gerakan’s exposure of corrupt practices by saying that it was related to the Gerakan leadership tussle was lame,” said Ti in a statement today.
He also said it was time DAP acknowledged that the party, too, was facing “corruption, cronyism and abuse of power”.
“In the past, we have seen DAP ferociously highlighting isolated cases of abuse of power, among others, to project a holier than thou image.
“Now that these practices are in its backyard, it can no longer pretend or remain silent. DAP leaders must come forward and condemn the corrupted practices of their leaders, relatives or otherwise without fear or favour.”
Sungai Pinang DAP representative Lim has been criticised following the release of a video depicting a man, with a broker and a “deceived” home buyer talking about settlement terms after a failed home purchase.
Lim had admitted it was indeed her 68-year-old father in the secretly-taped video uploaded onto the Penang Kini Facebook page.
According to the video, those interested to “cut the queue” in the government’s affordable homes scheme, would have to pay RM260 for a form and extra money to an “Uncle Lim”, who would then ensure they get a unit.
Speaking further, Ti said DAP must be consistent and act against alleged corrupt acts just as how it condemned those from other parties.
“DAP should demand its chief minister and its assemblyman resign pending disposal of any court cases, or to take leave pending investigation to show that DAP does walk its talk and does what it preaches .
“DAP today is only vocal towards its rivals, but meek and tolerant towards such corrupted practices or cultures within its backyard.
“DAP must show its commitment and non-tolerance of corruption by taking harsh action from within, instead of merely talking.”
