PUTRAJAYA, A contractor was remanded five days beginning today to assist in investigations into a bribery case involving a RM76 million pipeline project.

The 27-year-old man is also the son of a contractor who has been under remand since Friday in connection with the same case.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman allowed an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to have the man placed under remand till Sept 3.

He was detained at the MACC headquarters here when he showed up to give a statement at 5pm yesterday.

The MACC is also reported to have raided his home and seized jewellery worth millions of ringgit and three luxury cars.

The commission has also obtained four-day remand orders till Sept 2 for six other individuals, aged from 35 to 60, in connection with the same case.

Five are contractors and the other is a managing director of an oil and gas company.

They are being investigated under the Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 and Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Also in relation with the case, a project manager of the company in his 60s and a 51-year-old contractor were released by the MACC today after investigations pertaining to them were completed.

On Thursday, eight men were nabbed by the MACC in Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu to assist in the probe into the pipeline project in the south of the peninsula.
