PETALING JAYA: A heavy downpour this morning wreaked havoc in the Klang Valley – causing flash floods and traffic gridlocks.

The Star reported road users around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were forced to endure a long commute to work in heavy rains that pelted for more than two hours.

Among the roads affected by floods were the stretch from Ara Damansara to Subang Airport, as well as near the Sungai Rasau toll in Shah Alam. These caused traffic crawls and gridlocks lasting several kilometres on the Federal Highway.

The underpass near Sunway Giza in Kota Damansara was also hit by flash floods, which resulted in traffic being backed up from Pelangi Damansara and Sierra Damansara, said the report.

Stalled vehicles and faulty traffic lights caused by the storm also caused traffic delays in Penchala Tunnel and Cheras, and the Lebuhraya Damansara – Puchong (LDP) respectively.

Photographs of cars partially submerged in flood waters are also being circulating on social media – warning motorists to stay away from the particular stretch.

The downpour however, provided a respite from the haze which has enveloped the skies the past few days.
