Speaking to Astro Awani, the state’s police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi said: “The investigation papers are complete and we will refer it to the Perak state legal director on Monday.”
Recently news of several students of a religious academy claiming to have been sexually abused there became viral in social media.
Perak Religious Department director, Mohd Yusof Husin said that as part of ensuing investigations, the department visited the academy and took statements from several students regarding the matter.
Kazim however has denied the allegations and lodged a police report against local celebrity Wardina Safiyyah and activist Syed Azmi Alhabshi, who brought up the matter, alleging the duo had tarnished his reputation as a religious preacher.
Kazim said he and the school administration were also prepared to hand over the culprit to the police in the event the allegations of sexual abuse were proven true.
Meanwhile both Wardina and Syed Azmi denied having tarnished the preacher’s reputation as neither named him nor the school. The duo also alleged that it was the Astro Awani television station and the police themselves who released the name of the school.
Taking to Facebook, Wadinah said the police should spend more time investigating the allegations instead of questioning her and Syed Azmi as they had done “nothing wrong”. Syed Azmi meanwhile said he “never mentioned” either the preacher’s or school’s name and all that he wanted to do was raise awareness about child safety, among other issues.
