PETALING JAYA:
Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad today spoke out against any party or member who decided to become neutral or independent and friendly towards BN after winning on the Opposition ticket.

Writing in his blog today, Khalid said this was unacceptable.

“Such action is a betrayal of the ambition to form a new government under the auspices of a grand coalition.”

Khalid said for many political analysts, the icon who represented the move towards becoming BN-friendly was Perkasa President Ibrahim Ali.

He explained that in 2008, Ibrahim won the Pasir Mas seat on a PAS ticket but due to the votes from Barisan Alternatif (BA) supporters.

But after winning, he announced himself as being independent and through his actions was labelled as being BN-friendly, which he claimed had been agreed upon by Kelantan PAS, including the late Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

“If his claims are true, then we can’t blame him as it had been agreed upon earlier. But from a different angle, it’s still wrong because he betrayed the votes given to him by the rakyat.

“Although he did not join BN, his BN-friendly attitude could still be criticised as a betrayal because he won on anti-BN sentiments.”

Similarly, Khalid said PAS had to make its stance clear as to whether it was friendly towards BN or whether it was committed towards the Opposition before it was allowed to be part of the coalition.

“It’s all right if PAS contests alone, but it is wrong (for them not to have a stance) if they contest as a component party of the coalition.”

He pointed out that the agenda behind the formation of the coalition was to work together in an effort to topple the BN government in the 14th General Election and to form a new government to replace it.

“This new government is the grand coalition government. Its purpose is not only to replace (Prime Minister) Najib Razak or any other individuals, but to replace the current ruling coalition with the parties from the grand coalition in the formation of a new government.”

Many have been sceptical of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s new party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), and whether its formation was merely to get rid of Najib.
