Speaking at a press conference in Wisma Amanah Negara here today, Anuar said whether at the divisional, state or national level, non-Muslim members were given leadership roles equal to their Muslim counterparts.
“Just a few months after registering the party, we fielded non-Muslim candidates in the Sarawak elections and this is a huge achievement for an Islamist party,” he said.
In the Sarawak polls, Amanah fielded two Christian Dayak candidates, local activist Rapelson Richard Hamit in the new seat of Gedong, and Andrew Zain, a former soldier, who contested for the Sebuyau seat.
Anuar said on the issue of racism, there was no compromise.
“We want to see a country which is completely united and democratic, in line with the late Burhanuddin al-Helmy’s vision.”
Burhanuddin Muhammad Nur al-Hilmi, commonly known as Burhanuddin al-Helmy, was a Malay activist and politician before Merdeka. He also led PAS as president from 1956 to 1969.
On September 16, Amanah, as a party, will turn one.
