State housing affairs committee chairman Iskandar Abdul Samad said not all PPR buildings handed to the state government were in perfect condition and as such a lot of money was spent to rehabilitate the projects.
“We are willing to give back the PPR but return (first) the money we spent for rehabilitating the buildings. Since we have spent RM8 million, we want the money to be refunded,” he told reporters after attending an Aidilfitri gathering with civil servants and Selangor’s SUKMA contingent at the Selangor State Assembly Complex Compound, here today.
Iskandar was commenting on a statement by Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Noh Omar that he would write an official letter to the state government, seeking to take over the management and maintenance of the state’s PPR buildings.
Noh said it was part of the ministry’s transformation initiative and a new approach to manage PPR buildings since the state government had failed to properly manage the PPR in Lembah Subang 1.
Iskandar however, said the rental collected from PPR houses was insufficient to cover the cost of repairing and managing the units. In 2012, RM3 million was spent to repair elevators and water pumps at all PPRs in the state.
