PETALING JAYA: Police today revealed that there could be over 700 Islamic State (IS) members in Negeri Sembilan alone, if a letter sent to them by the terrorist group is to be believed.

China Press reported that federal police Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division (SB-CTD) chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said this claim was made in a letter delivered to the Nilai police station last night.

The letter, which was titled “IS Threat” also came attached with photographs of the prime minister, deputy prime minister and the attorney-general amongst others.

Ayob believes that the letter was sent because the sender wanted to boast about the IS’s reach in Negeri Sembilan.

The document, he added, has since been handed over to the forensic department, while police are in the midst of identifying the sender.

Ayob also revealed that police received a similar letter two months ago, but refused to divulge any details.

Coincidently, in June, a propaganda video was released by the IS featuring Mohd Rafi Udin, a Malaysian fighter from Negeri Sembilan who warned of attacks on civilians, including the “slaughter” of members of the police force that would be carried out soon in the country.

Rafi had also encouraged IS supporters in Malaysia to use whatever means to “kill-off” non-believers.
