PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Army has calmed the fears of the public by issuing a statement clarifying that marauding Macaques that ambushed a postman two days ago, only made off with normal mail and not confidential military documents as reported in the media.

Malay Mail Online quoted Army communications director Lt Col Khairuddin Ismail as saying that while the monkeys did steal some letters from a postman delivering the mail at the Terendak Camp in Malacca, none of the documents were military secrets or confidential in any way.

“The monkeys took normal postal letters.

“I would like to stress here that the Malaysian Armed Forces practises a strict procedure in delivering important letters,” he said in a statement he sent to Malay Mail Online.

A report in The Star earlier today said a group of long-tailed Macaques had overpowered the postman, snatched three “confidential” documents he was carrying and took off with their loot to the trees and the roof of a building within seconds.

A police report was also later lodged as this was not the first time the monkeys had attacked people at the army camp.

Traps have now been put in place to stop the mischievous animals in their tracks.
