PETALING JAYA: Police have set up a task force to probe the shooting of a moneylender in Setapak on Wednesday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh said the task force comprised of officers from the city police headquarters, as well as Bukit Aman. It was set up immediately after the shooting, he added.

“It is all out to hunt the gunmen in the Setapak shooting. We had also set up a similar task force for the OUG shooting (earlier this month),” Amar told FMT, adding that the police had yet to identify any suspect in the recent incident.

On Wednesday, moneylender V Kandasamy, 43, was brutally gunned down in broad daylight near Setapak Central on Jalan Genting Klang, while waiting at a traffic light.

A footage, believed to be retrieved from a traffic camera, is being circulated on social media and it shows the suspects arriving at the scene on motorcycles driven by their accomplices before opening fire at the victim’s vehicle.

Reports state that a total of 18 shots were fired – 16 of which hit Kandasamy. He died on the scene.

There is speculation that Kandasamy was the second-in-command of the Satu Hati gang, and police believe the shooters and their accomplices are still in the country.
