PETALING JAYA: PKR is not taking “negative comments” thrown its way by its Pakatan Harapan (PH) ally DAP over the Penang snap polls issue, lying down.

New Straits Times (NST) today quoted Penang Deputy Chief Minister 1 Mohd Rashid Hasnon of PKR saying that salvos fired towards the party by DAP only strengthen their (PKR’s) bid to discuss the need for snap polls further.

Rashid, who is also Penang PKR vice-chairman, was responding to Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik’s recent remark to a Chinese daily that should a snap poll be called, DAP would be able to retain all their seats in Penang, while PKR would lose some, due to poor performance of its representatives. Ng however, did not name any PKR representative.

In reply, Rashid said: “He (Ng) is free to make whatever claims he wants, but they have to be supported with facts.

“Moreover, because of such (negative) statements, it strengthens our bid to discuss the snap polls proposal further and not accept whatever is proposed by DAP,” Rashid was quoted as saying by the NST.

He reiterated the need for DAP to consider calling for snap polls only after discussions with its allies.

“Pakatan Harapan is formed by three parties – PKR, DAP and Amanah.

“DAP needs to reach a consensus with the other partners in the coalition,” said Rashid.

PKR and DAP are at loggerheads over the idea of a snap poll in Penang, following Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s corruption charges.

Leaders from both parties have been taking jabs at each other via social media over the matter.
