In a statement today, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli expressed his interest to join the new audit team which will be announced soon.
“As a certified accountant registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), I want to express my interest and readiness to join the new audit team which will be appointed to audit 1MDB,” he said.
Not only that, the PKR Secretary-General said he was also willing to do the work without getting paid.
Rafizi reasoned that if the 1MDB board of directors were convinced there was no misappropriation in the fund’s transactions, the easiest way to convince the rakyat “for free” was by making him part of the new audit team.
“I will write to Tan Sri Irwan Serigar, the chairman of 1MDB’s board of directors with regard to this matter,” he said.
In a report by Malaysiakini earlier today, Irwan was quoted as telling reporters that they will announce soon the new auditors for 1MDB after Deloitte Malaysia decide to quit.
Deloitte had informed of its intention to resign as 1MDB auditor in February, according to a press statement by the investment fund.
