The Star spoke to M Bavani, 32, who recalled the incident.
“I was sitting down yesterday and suddenly, I was jolted (by a flashback) when I closed my eyes.
“I try not to think too much of that night but sometimes the images just come back,” she was quoted as saying exactly one month after the incident, which police later confirmed as being the first Islamic State attack on Malaysian soil.
She also recalled seeing her husband S Jaiseelan, also 32, badly hurt after the explosion.
“A piece of shrapnel had pierced his neck and barely missed his spine.
“He had open wounds that wouldn’t stop bleeding and had we waited for the ambulance to arrive, I might have lost my husband,” Bavani said. Her brother-in-law and people at the scene rushed the couple to the hospital.
Bavani suffered a fractured forearm and is expected to recover from the injuries in about three months while Jaiseelan, who suffered a fractured leg, a torn left ear drum and other wounds, has a longer road to recovery – from nine months to a year, the daily reported.
The injuries have also forced the couple to rely on their family for support as well as in their daily activities, it added.
Bavani was also furious about the “reaction” showed by the suspects recently charged with carrying out the attack.
Photographs of the two men show them grinning at the camera – clearly unapologetic for their horrendous act.
“I felt irritated seeing this. We are both in pain and they are happy about what they did,” she said.
Bavani and Jaiseelan were celebrating their second wedding anniversary at the bar when two men lobbed a grenade there.
Suspects Jonius Ondie @Jahali, 24, and Imam Wahyuddin Karjono, 21, were recently charged with attempted murder, as well as with committing acts of terrorism, over the incident.
