Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Noh Omar said he hoped that the proposal would be approved by the Cabinet so that more people could benefit from the programme.
“Many from the low-income group find it difficult to get a bank loan as they can’t meet the bank’s terms of approval.
“These people are not well off, some only survive on selling items at the night market, so they will not have a sound bank account balance.
“Therefore, my ministry wants to introduce the rent-to-own concept,” he told reporters after attending the Ipoh City Council’s Aidilfitri celebration here today.
Noh added that six PPR projects in total are to be implemented in Perak involving the construction of 2,000 housing units, with two of them completed, and the rest to be launched in the near future.
Meanwhile, on allegations that Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali had approved the rezoning of agricultural land in Paya Indah Wetlands, Mukim Tanjong Dua Belas, Kuala Langat, Selangor, for development purposes, Noh said if the claims were false, Azmin should take legal action to clear his name.
“The person who revealed this fact is a lifetime member of PKR and not from Umno.
“If it was from Umno, they would probably have accused it of being a conspiracy or many other things,” he said.
Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) Coordinator Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, uploaded a public statement saying Azmin had in a meeting approved the agricultural (limited) status to be converted for development purposes.
