The mayor, Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz, said: “If there are uprooted trees in any area, the team will be right there to clean it up in order to avoid the risk of damaging properties, cars and houses.
“We’ve also increased the maintenance as well as operations to clear clogged drains, especially in areas that have experienced flash floods before this.”
Mhd Amin said DBKL had upgraded the drainage system in 10 “hot spot” flood-prone areas, including Bangsar, Kampung Batu Muda Tambahan, Jalan Puchong and Raja Chulan.
He said this to reporters after attending City Hall’s Department of Housing Management and Community Development’s Aidilfitri gathering here today.
Mhd Amin said DBKL also planned to plant more medium-size, slow growing trees in the city to overcome the uprooted tree issue.
“Most of the trees in Kuala Lumpur are not trees with tap roots. That is why it cannot grip the ground firmly, which then leads to trees collapsing easily,” he added.
