KUALA LUMPUR:
The Education Ministry will wait for a detailed report on the incident where a religious teacher was said to have slapped a female student at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Batu Gajah, Kelantan, last Tuesday.

Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan said the ministry will take the appropriate action after receiving the report.

“Every report received will be assessed with the cooperation of the District Education Office or, if necessary, the police, immediately,” he told reporters today.

Kamalanathan also reminded teachers to control their emotions during the teaching and learning sessions. “There are proper ways to discipline a student and under no circumstances must they be hurt,” he said.

He spoke to reporters after closing the Federal Territory-level 1Malaysia Tamil Language Open Competition. A total of 30 teams from secondary schools in Kuala Lumpur participated in the competition that focused on the contributions of the Indian community in the country.
