GEORGE TOWN: No family members will take over his position as Penang chief minister, said Lim Guan Eng in the event he is incarcerated on corruption charges.

Lim said the suggestion that his family members would take over as CM, as implied by state Umno Liaison Committee Chairman Zainal Abidin Osman, was a “malicious lie”.

Lim denied suggestions of “a proxy or family members” replacing him as CM.

“I categorically deny this. My replacement when I go to jail will not be a family member. Do not lie.

“You (Zainal) are lying to cover up BN’s weaknesses. The state election is to let the rakyat decide on the current state of affairs.

“This person is not ashamed of himself. Penangites know he is an expert in lying – people have denied him victory twice (in the elections).

“Already lost twice but he still wants to contest. I hope in his third attempt, he will have some self-realisation,” he said at a press conference today.

Lim had announced plans for snap polls in order to restore “lost democracy and hope” for Malaysians, following alleged systemic abuse by the central government.

Yesterday, Zainal had stated that Lim’s motivation behind the state polls was to have him replaced by a family member, in the event he was convicted for corruption charges.

“Is the real motive for the snap polls to place a proxy or a Lim family member in power to ensure the family can carry on leading the state government?” Zainal had asked in a statement yesterday.
