PETALING JAYA:
The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) today denied issuing any directive to mosques and surau in the state to perform special prayers (solat hajat) seeking the cancellation of Selena Gomez’s concert.

“It is stressed here that any cancellation of the Selena Gomez concert is under the jurisdiction of the local authorities (PBT) and out of Jais’s jurisdiction,” the department said in a brief statement.

Previously it was reported that Ahmad Yunus Hairi, PAS’s Selangor Exco, had ordered mosques in the state to conduct special prayers tomorrow.

This was to seek divine help for the cancellation of the teen idol’s concert, slated to take place on Monday in Shah Alam.

Meanwhile, Jais admitted that it had received complaints about the concert and petitions that it be cancelled.

He said the complaints had been forwarded to the local authorities.

PAS Youth and the party’s Ulama wing have strongly opposed the concert on grounds that it it would damage the faith of Muslims and tarnish the month of Syawal.
