GEORGE TOWN:
The proposal to hold a snap election clearly shows that the Penang DAP government is in a state of panic, said Penang PAS commissioner Fauzi Mohd Yusof.

He said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng should wait until the court makes a decision on the two allegations levelled against him.

“The state government’s action seems like DAP is confident that the alleged charges against Lim would stick (convicted). It also seems to want to save Lim and DAP.

“In this issue, DAP should not do anything which can create problems for the people … to do something that will cause the people to become victims,” he said when contacted by Bernama, here yesterday.

He said the state election to be held would undoubtedly involve great expense.

“The people will also face two elections, the state and parliamentary elections.

“DAP is resorting to doing something that can cause problems and the chief minister might lose in the coming election,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fauzi said Penang PAS was ready to face any eventuality and would meet to discuss the matter further.

Media reports recently quoted Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy as saying that DAP has listed two options in response to the two alleged corruption charges levied against Lim.

The first option is a snap election and the second option is to wait for the next general election.

On June 30, Lim pleaded not guilty at the Penang High Court here to two counts of alleged corruption in relation to the conversion of an agricultural zone to residential zone and the purchase of a bungalow at below market value.

Also charged is the former owner of the bungalow, Phang Li Koon, who also pleaded not guilty to abetting Lim.
