According to the police, the victim had given the couple RM13 million when she wanted to invest in the couple’s ceramic business.
When the victim found that the business was not proceeding, she had asked the couple to return the money but they refused and allegedly called for a hired killer to assassinate the victim.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Amar Singh revealed that the couple hired two hitmen with the help of another married couple, who were restaurant owners.
The masterminds were suspected of paying the hitmen RM60,000 to kill the victim.
Police arrested eight suspects, aged between 26 and 54, made up of the couple, the restaurant owners and four other suspects who were members of a hitmen syndicate.
Of the four, two were said to be the shooters in Wong’s case. The arrests were made in Kuala Lumpur and Perak.
They will be remanded until next Monday and are being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Amar, at a press conference, said that a Glock 19 pistol and a round of ammunition were found hidden in a vehicle in Chemor, Perak. It was confirmed as the weapon used to murder Wong.
“The ballistic tests on the firearm revealed that it was also used in three other reported cases in Perak.”
The two men arrested in Perak have criminal records and are believed to be involved in a murder case and a “shots fired” case in Sungai Siput and Chemor.
“With the arrests and seizure of the firearm, police have managed to solve four shooting cases,” Amar said.
In addition to the arrests, police are also conducting investigations on how the victim had obtained RM13 million and if her husband was involved in investment schemes and money laundering.
Wong, 32, was gunned down by two men on motorbikes in Taman OUG on July 6.
Her daughter, eight, who was in the front passenger seat, was also shot and later underwent surgery.
