PETALING JAYA:
Malaysian Esmond Chuah, who was injured in the Nice terror attack last week, has passed the critical period, Singapore’s The Straits Times reported.

The 22-year-old Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) student has no internal bleeding and has not suffered any neurological damage, said the report.

Chuah suffered back and other injuries after being hit by the side of a 19-tonne truck which plowed through a crowd during Bastille Day celebrations in the southern French city on July 14, killing 84 and injuring more than 200 others.

According to the report, Chuah will be repatriated to Malaysia once the hospital clears him for travel. The update on Chuah’s medical condition was put up by SUTD on their official Facebook page yesterday.

Chuah was in Nice with 11 other SUTD students for a three-week summer programme, which ends on July 22. The university has also sent a senior staff member, as well as their insurance company’s emergency team to Nice, to assist the students.

According to the report, the students have also been issued an advisory to return to Singapore upon completion of the summer programme on Friday and so far, three of the 11 have indicated they would return. The others have said they will decide later, or have decided to proceed with personal travel plans after the programme ends.
