KUALA LUMPUR:
Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) folks can breathe easy now as Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has decided to scrap the newly introduced parking rate there.

The move came into immediate effect following a public outcry over the newly implemented parking charges around various spots in Kuala Lumpur.

The new parking fees were imposed on Monday morning. Many have since voiced their disagreement over the move which Kuala Lumpur Mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said was to encourage carpooling in the city and by so doing, ease traffic congestion.

The affected areas include Bukit Bintang, Sri Hartamas, Desa Hartamas, Bukit Damansara, Solaris Mont Kiara, TTDI and Bangsar.

However, after a meeting between City Hall and Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor this morning, Mohd Amin announced that TTDI would be excluded from the list.

“After taking in the views of all parties, City Hall had decided to revert the parking charges at TTDI since it is a residential township,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.

Earlier this week, The Star reported that City Hall had increased parking charges in the central business district (CBD) by 150% with hourly parking charges increased from 80 sen to RM2 for the first hour and RM3 for all subsequent hours.

Motorists who parked their vehicles from 7.30am to 6pm would have to fork out as much as RM32 a day for parking charges under the new rate.

The new parking charges will be enforced in stages from now to Aug 1 depending on the locality.
