The victim, who suffered 60% burns on her body, had been warded at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital and is understood to have died due to an infection.

The incident occurred on June 28, when the 25-year-old answered a phone call while refuelling her car at the petrol station located in Taman Setapak Indah.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s operations assistant director Azizan Ismail was reported as saying that the victim’s clothing was almost entirely burned and that she had burns on her body, including her chest.

He told reporters at the time that the victim was still conscious and managed to give her personal details to the firemen before she was rushed to the hospital.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera recording showed that the victim had opened the left rear passenger door and had retrieved the ringing cellphone at the front seat while the car was being refuelled.
