It was for this reason that it decided to send a memorandum to party President Abdul Hadi Awang.
The 13 PAS state assemblymen said the move showed how serious they were when it came to defending the Selangor Government.
Meru Assemblyman Dr Abdul Rani Osman was among the 13. When contacted by FMT, he said the group hoped PAS and the Opposition pact Pakatan Harapan (PH) would reach an agreement to ensure a straight fight against Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election.
“This hope is not harboured only by us, but also by DAP and PKR.
“The recent twin by-elections in Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar have proved that a three-cornered fight will only ensure a win for BN.”
Abdul Rani was PAS’ candidate for the June 18 Sungai Besar polls. Having lost to BN, he said PAS was serious in its effort to protect Selangor from falling into the hands of BN.
The group yesterday expressed open support for PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s recent call for a ceasefire.
In their memorandum, the group demanded for the formation of an “Opposition coalition” to protect the Selangor Government.
The only condition was that all parties had to respect the principles of one another.
Paya Jaras Assemblyman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the memorandum also urged the party to focus its attention on the people’s welfare and the state’s development.
“We asked for all Opposition parties to focus their efforts on defending the state government as well as toppling Umno and BN in Putrajaya.”
Meanwhile, Pokok Sena PAS MP Mahfuz Omar not only praised the move, but also labelled it as “daring”.
“For Malaysia and the people who are hoping for a change in the country’s future, a ceasefire and compromise among all Opposition parties is a necessity,” he said in a statement today.
The Pakatan Rakyat coalition broke up when PAS refused to give up its idea of hudud, much to the dismay of DAP which refused to accept the idea.
