PETALING JAYA:
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has always prioritised the welfare of national squad players.

FAM Secretary-General Hamidin Mohd Amin said last night that Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s allegations that four Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) players quit the national squad because their welfare was neglected was untrue.

“The statement that FAM does not take care of national players is untrue. We provide every possible facility for the players when they are in training, including accommodation, clothes, food and transport to the training ground.

“Every player is also given a daily allowance and match bonuses, as long as they are in the central training camps,” Hamidin said in a statement posted on the FAM website last night.

He added that in case of a player getting injured, doctors and physiotherapists are also at FAM’s disposal.

Last week, four JDT players – Safiq Rahim, Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak, Amirul Hadi Zainal and S Kunanlan – announced their retirement from the national squad.

Following their retirement, Tunku Ismail, who owns JDT, alleged that players sustained injuries during training with the national squad and suffered from fatigue.

He also claimed that FAM is tainted with graft and monopolised by businessmen.

Yesterday, he had also claimed to be in possession of a pendrive containing 30 years of “corruption in the FAM”.

Hamidin said that FAM would send letters to the four players, asking them to submit their resignation letters.

“They (the four players) have to state the reasons behind their decision. However, our door is still open should these players choose to return to the national squad,” Hamidin said.
