“The firm intends to continue to pursue every available avenue to ensure the families obtain the justice they rightly deserve,” Thomas Philip said in a statement today.
The legal firm is representing the next of kin of three passengers and seven crew members who were on board the ill-fated flight.
Thomas Philip also revealed that the national carrier had not reached any settlement with 33 families of MH17 passengers in similar suits against the defendants, represented by LHD Lawyers, an Australian legal firm.
The firm was responding to news reports that Malaysia Airlines had struck a deal to settle claims for most of the Dutch victims on board the ill-fated flight.
Yesterday, Dutch national broadcaster NOS quoted Veeru Mewa, a lawyer representing Dutch MH17 victims, as saying that Malaysia Airlines will settle claims for most Dutch victims.
Mewa had said under the Montreal Convention, airlines must pay damages of up to about 130,000 euros (RM571,000) to victims’ families, regardless of the circumstances of the crash.
Earlier today, LHD lawyer Balan Nair, who is representing nine families, also revealed that none of his clients have settled with Malaysian Airlines System.
MH17, a Boeing 777, was shot down over eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014 while en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam.
