GEORGE TOWN:
Flights to and from the Penang International Airport have been delayed due to heavy rain and flooding, authorities say.

Airport Senior General Manager Arif Jaafar said landings by 10 flights were delayed.

Four departing flights were also delayed due to heavy rain and strong winds.

Arif said the arrival level, the pick-up driveway and the turboprop level were inundated by floodwaters.

“There have been flight delays because of the heavy rain.

“There have been reports of traffic jams due to water overflow at the roundabout approaching the airport terminal,” he said when contacted.

Arif said waters subsided about 6pm and airport workers were draining floodwaters out of the terminal.
