PETALING JAYA: Sarawak politician Nancy Shukri is optimistic about being able to shoulder her new responsibilities as minister in charge of innovation and technology.

She was a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of legal affairs before the Cabinet reshuffle.

Effective June 28, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said took over from Nancy as the new head of the Legal Affairs Division.

Nancy is now tasked with overseeing the Malaysian Innovation Agency, Malaysia Nuclear Power Corporation (MNPC) and the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (Might).

Nancy takes over these agencies from fellow minister Mah Siew Keong, who has been appointed Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister.

She noted that her new portfolios were very different from the agencies she had handled before. However, she expressed optimism in handling them.

Nancy continues to be in charge of several other agencies including the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) as well as the Sabah and Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board.

According to Nancy’s office, the official handover of duties to Azalina is expected to take place on July 26.
