PETALING JAYA:
City Hall enforcement officers should have done more when some thugs attacked the car of a senior citizen at a Ramadan bazaar in Jalan Masjid India just before Hari Raya.

City Hall Enforcement Department Director Mustapha Mohd Noor said City Hall officers had been given the authority to stop riots and angry mobs from disruptive and chaotic behavior.

“They have the authority to try and curb any violent or potentially dangerous behaviour by the public,” he told the Sun.

If things get out of hand, then they will have to call the police, he added.

Mustapha was responding to a viral video last week that showed some thugs attacking the car of a senior citizen at a Ramadan bazaar in Jalan Masjid India.

There has been no word from the police on any arrests regarding the case although there were reports that police were seeking the help of 10 people believed involved in the attack and subsequent damage to the car.

The 76-year-old-man was driving slowly in the packed Ramadan bazaar when a motorcyclist veered into his path.

The motorcyclist and his friends are believed to have attacked the car, damaging the front and back windscreens. One of them even climbed onto the roof to incite others.

DBKL officers later helped escort the car out of the area.
