Justice Kamardin Hashim ruled the defence had succeeded in raising reasonable doubt on the prosecution’s case.
“The prosecution relied on circumstantial evidence that did not point to the guilt of the four accused,” he said.
Upon hearing the decision, all four accused, Inspector S. Hare Krishnan, Sergeant Jaffri Jaafar and Corporals Mohd Nahar Abd Rahman and Haswadi Zamri Shaari, were seen crying and hugging each other in the dock.
Their family members were also seen crying in the public gallery. They hugged the four policemen after the proceedings ended.
The four cops were charged with murdering Dhamendran between May 18 and 21 in 2013 at the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters.
Gobind Singh represented Hare Krishnan while Baljit Singh represented Jaffri, Nahar, and Haswadi.
Suhaimi Ibrahim appeared for the prosecution.
The defence had called 19 witnesses during the trial.
The High Court had freed Hare, Jaffri, Nahar and Haswadi on December 12 last year for the death of Dharmendran while in custody, at the end of the prosecution’s case, and ruled that it had failed to prove the motive in the case.
Earlier this year, the Court of Appeal ordered the four to enter their defence on the murder charge.
