They claim the council has established that any member who cannot attend the meetings will be deemed to consent with the decisions made.

GEORGE TOWN:
The Penang Government has been urged to amend several items in the State Transport Council (STC) which appear to conflict with the motion agreed upon in the state assembly last month.

State Opposition leader Jahara Hamid (BN-Telok Ayer Tawar), Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah (BN-Teluk Bahang) and Nordin Ahmad (BN-Bayan Lepas) were appointed to STC to monitor progress of the Transport Master Plan (TMP).

Shah Headan said several matters in the STC seem to reflect that the implementation of TMP had been agreed, including the land reclamation project.

He claimed that the STC had established that any member who could not attend the meetings will be deemed to consent with the decisions made.

“These things are reasons for the appointed BN representatives to decline the offer to sit on the STC.

“Jahara will raise this matter with the state government,” he told reporters after attending the first STC workshop here today.

On May 27, the Penang Government announced the appointment of three BN representatives to the STC along with 51 others, including 10 representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
