Graphic designer jailed for possession of IS material

KUALA LUMPUR:
A graphic designer was sentenced to 20 months’ jail by the High Court here today for possession of terrorism-related material.

Muhammad Saiful Hashim, 35, received another 20 months for possession of six pieces of counterfeit RM10 notes.

Judicial Commissioner Ab Karim Ab Rahman ordered him to serve the sentences concurrently from the date of his arrest on March 22.

The judge noted that Muhammad Saiful also had two previous convictions, for theft and drugs.

According to the facts of the case, a sticker of the Islamic State terrorist group’s symbol and images of an AK-47, a hand grenade, a black-and-white pistol marked ‘Epol Antilabel’ and IS flag were found in the laptop belonging to Muhammad Saiful.

He admitted committing the offences at his house in Jalan Sekolah Menengah Derma, Kangar, Perlis, at 9.45am on March 22.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam appeared for the prosecution while counsel Adi Zulkarnain Zulkafli represented Mohammad Saiful.
