Its deputy president, S.K. Devamany, told FMT that placing another MIC leader in the mix would help bring back the support of the Indian community to BN.
“We respect Prime Minister Najib Razak’s prerogative to decide who should and should not be in the Cabinet. But, of course, another ministerial post for MIC will be good.
“It will empower the party to reach out to the people in a more effective manner.”
Last year, MIC was allocated three Cabinet posts, but due to internal turmoil and the change of leadership, its former president, G Palanivel, was dropped from his post as the minister for natural resources and environment.
MIC Treasurer-General S Vell Paari said now that the issues were resolved, a second full ministerial post should be given back to the party.
“MIC has always been a very loyal component of BN.
“Hence the party and the Indian community would be grateful if the prime minister can again appoint a second minister from MIC to the Cabinet.”
MIC Youth Chief C Sivarraajh concurred, saying at the very least, the party’s deputy president should be made a full minister.
He also suggested for MIC to be allocated two deputy ministerial posts which would help MIC and BN strengthen their standing amongst the Indians in the country.
Wanita MIC Chief Mohana Muniandy echoed the same. She told FMT the party’s women should not be left out of the Cabinet reshuffle as at the moment, there was no such posts provided to an Indian woman.
“Umno and MCA both have a female representative in the Cabinet, but not MIC. This has made it difficult for us to get the voices of Indian women heard.
“By having one, it will help the government build a stronger relationship with the women of the Indian community.”
