PETALING JAYA: Kedah-born singer-songwriter Yuna (Yunalis Mat Zara’ai) has earned recognition from Rolling Stone magazine’s website, which ranked her third album Chapters as among the best R&B albums of the year so far.
An article on the Rolling Stone website said Chapters had demonstrated that Yuna is an “insightful lyricist who only needs a stellar single or two to earn mainstream attention”.
Yuna’s work was ranked alongside such artists as Beyonce for Lemonade and Rihanna for Anti.
Yuna, who hails from Alor Setar, Kedah, shot to fame through her MySpace page, and made her recording debut in 2008 with an EP which won five Anugerah Industri Muzik awards.
She has since been based in the US. Her album Chapters features appearances by other R&B artists, such as Usher and Jhene Aiko.
Yuna’s song Crush, featuring Usher, peaked at number 10 on June 25, on the US Billboard charts in the Adult R&B Songs category.
