ALOR STAR:
Abu Hassan Sharif, the state assemblyman for Kota Siputeh, has been appointed as acting head of Jerlun Umno to replace Mukhriz Mahathir who was expelled from Umno on Friday.

Mukhriz is MP for Jerlun and state assemblyman for Ayer Hitam.

Kedah Umno chief Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the Ayer Hitam state constituency would become the adopted seat of the state Umno liasion committee. “I will give special attention to ensure all needs, community welfare and development agenda in the state constituency will continue to be given,” he said yesterday.

Mukhriz and Muhyiddin Yassin were unanimously sacked by the Umno supreme council on Friday while vice president Mohd Shafie Apdal’s membership was suspended.

Ahmad Bashah said the sackings showed that Umno had a strong tradition that advocated the practice of loyalty and togetherness.

He said Kedah Umno fully supported the Umno supreme council and the party leadership for the sake of continuity.

“It is regretable after various opportunities were given to the three individuals, who have contributed so much, to suddenly sit together and conspire with the Opposition.

“This has caused anxiety, confusion and disunity among all levels of leadership and grassroots,” he said.
