PAS: No compromise with Amanah on seats for GE14

It says it will contest seats it has traditionally contested and will not compromise with other parties, including DAP and Amanah.

KOTA BHARU:
PAS will not give up the seats it has traditionally contested to Amanah in the 14th General Election (GE14), said PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

He suggested that if Amanah wanted to win in the election, it should contest in the constituencies traditionally contested by DAP.

“If Amanah wants to survive, it must contest the DAP seats, then there is hope for it to win. If it contests the PAS seats, it will lose.

“By right, DAP must give its seats to Amanah because Amanah is its baby; the two are seen as synonymous,” he told reporters after giving a talk in Pasir Tumboh, here, last night.

Amanah, the splinter party of PAS, is now led by former PAS Deputy President Mohamad Sabu, who is more popularly known as Mat Sabu.

Tuan Ibrahim said a survey done by PAS on the outcome of the recent Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections found that Amanah received support from non-Malay voters.

He also said that PAS would be contesting in the areas it had traditionally stood throughout the country and would not compromise with other parties, including DAP and Amanah.

Asked to comment on former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad joining forces with DAP to topple Prime Minister Najib Razak, Tuan Ibrahim said Mahathir would compromise his reputation when he used politics.

He said the people were confused with what Mahathir was doing.

On another matter, Tuan Ibrahim said PAS would organise a talk to explain the Private Member’s Bill on the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) 2016.

The bill was tabled by PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang in the Dewan Rakyat on May 26.

“In these four months, (before the Dewan Rakyat sitting resumes in October), we will meet many quarters, including politicians and parliamentarians, so that the people truly understand the amendments.”
