Guan Eng was responding to a comment by Deputy Foreign Minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican reminding Hock Seng to not “pull out” at the last minute.
“You (Reezal) are a deputy minister from Penang. We are from Penang, we are the brave types, just like you.
“So Hock Seng will not run, he will not be a Rahman Dahlan, he will be braver than Rahman.
“Hock Seng will wait for his opponent and not go overseas or hide overseas or use the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to run away from a debate,” Guan Eng said at a press conference in Komtar today.
Guan Eng added that Reezal was most welcome to attend the debate.
Gerakan Secretary-General Liang Teck Ming had called for a debate with Hock Seng on the contentious Penang undersea tunnel. Both are expected to meet on June 28 to slug it out in Penang.
Rahman had previously wanted to debate Guan Eng over the Taman Manggis land issue, but put it off on the advice of the IGP.
Meanwhile, Guan Eng defended Hock Seng’s claim that he did not know Liang, saying Hock Seng, like most Penangites, did not know who he was.
“Please do not blame Hock Seng. But please don’t sakit hati (feel bad) or salah faham (misunderstand), not many people in Penang know who Liang is.” Guan Eng said.
