“Ikea is not willing to risk children’s safety and, therefore, urges all customers who have a Patrull safety gate to immediately stop using it and bring it back to any Ikea store for a full refund.”
This includes the Patrull safety gate, Patrull klamma and the Patrull Fast, which have been sold at all Ikea stores nationwide.
Ikea said the decision came about as they had received customer reports that these gates had opened unexpectedly and children had fallen down the stairs.
“Ikea has received customer reports where Patrull safety gates have opened unexpectedly and children have fallen down stairs.
“Some of the incidents have required medical attention.”
While noting that no such incidents have been reported in Malaysia so far, Ikea said a third party investigation had shown that the locking mechanism in the gates wasn’t reliable, therefore, it posed a risk for kids.
Ikea’s Acting Business Area Manager for children, Maria Thorn, assured that the Swedish furniture giant would not take any risk pertaining to child safety.
“At Ikea, we have a zero tolerance regarding child safety.
“We want to offer safe and healthy products and we think that children are the most important people in the world.
“Whenever we get indications of a possible safety issue with any of our products, we act.
“We cannot accept that there is a risk of injury while playing and as an immediate and precautionary action, we recall all Patrull safety gates.”
No receipt or proof of purchase is required for the refund.
