PETALING JAYA:
The iftar (breaking of fast) ceremony held at a church in Kuching last week was an event mooted by Pusat Maklumat Islam Sarawak Chief Executive Officer Zabariah Matali.

In a report by Sin Chew Daily, Archbishop John Ha of the Catholic Archdiose of Kuching, revealed that Zabariah had proposed the idea last February during a dialogue with priests in the East Malaysian state.

“We were impressed by him and his team’s open mindedness, therefore we immediately accepted the proposal.”

Ha said that several people from the church had also fasted alongside their Muslim friends and this was obvious proof of the spirit of religious harmony found in Sarawak.

Last week a picture of “buka puasa” event at the St Joseph’s Christian Parish Centre in Kuching went viral on social media and garnered a lot of praise from netizens.
