GEORGE TOWN:
In what is probably historic, the weekly Kedah State Executive Council meeting convened at the Penang Hospital today.

This is because Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit here following an intestinal complication.

Reporters also caught a glimpse of Bashah for the first time after more than two weeks since he collapsed at a hotel in Alor Star.

He underwent intestinal surgery here, after being transferred from a private hospital in Alor Star.

Appearing cheerful, Bashah was spotted wearing a lounge suit with a red tie, whilst his 10 exco members sat in a circle at a tiny spot in the ICU ward.

Only photographers were allowed into the ward at the time, and were given only five minutes to snap photos.

A senior state government official told reporters that either Bashah or State Secretary Bakar Din would give a press conference “in a couple of hours” time.

The exco meeting is nothing new to the Kedah government, as former MB Syed Razak Syed Zain also held an exco meeting while hospitalised.

The meeting, the first of its kind, was held at the Island Hospital in Macalister Rd in 2005.
