Khalid, a former president of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta), told FMT there was nothing wrong with AirAsia’s proposal for klia2 to be rebranded.
This, he said, was because klia2 was indeed a low-cost carrier terminal, hence by right its name should indicate it.
“There is nothing wrong with AirAsia’s proposal, but they should have done it from the start,” he said when commenting on reports that AirAsia will change the name klia2 to LCCT2 on its website.
He said the move by the airline could cause some confusion among passengers, but it was not that big an issue as it would only concern AirAsia passengers.
“If AirAsia proceeds with the move, they must make it clear to customers that LCCT2 is in Kuala Lumpur. Otherwise, there will be those who do not know where LCCT2 is.”
AirAsia Bhd CEO Aireen Omar had earlier announced that AirAsia was set to change the name klia2 to LCCT2 on its website and promotional materials.
At a press conference, Aireen explained this was part of the campaign – announced by AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes last week – to promote klia2 as LCCT2.
When asked if the change in name would cause confusion among passengers and taxi drivers, Aireen said she believed it would not.
Following Fernandes’ announcement, MAHB stressed last week that klia2 was not a low-cost carrier terminal, and calling it by any other name would mislead and confuse the public and passengers.
