The presentation was made by the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE).
Most of the recipients, according to a report in the New Straits Times, will leave the country to join prestigious institutions in the US.
This is the 53rd annual group of Malaysians thus honoured under the Fulbright programme to study, conduct research and teach in the US.
For the first time, two Malaysians were presented the newly-created Fulbright-Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission grant. This grant is jointly funded by MCMC and the US Government. Those selected will study and do research in the fields of communications and mass media.
The Fulbright programme, the flagship international educational exchange programme sponsored by the United States Government and designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries, has been offered by MACEE since its inception in 1963 to promote international goodwill through the exchange of students and scholars in all areas of education, culture, and science.
One of the recipients, Dr Mohammad Faizal Ahmad Fauzi from the Multimedia University, told Bernama he intends to develop digital pathology, a non-popular field in Malaysia.
“My aim is to be a pioneer in this specific research area and we (Multimedia University) will find medical collaborators to work in this area in future,” said Mohammad, a future Biomedical Informatics student in Ohio State University.
