Johor Deputy Enforcement Chief Rizq Fazliana Abd Hamid said the goods were confiscated about 1.30pm by five officers and four policemen after a week-long surveillance and investigations after receiving complaints from the owner of the brand, Southern Tigers Sdn Bhd.
“The seized goods were worth RM2,145,” he told reporters here today.
Rizq Fazliana said each of the adult-sized red-and-blue songkok were priced at RM65 and sold at the bazaar since the start of Ramadan.
He said police had recorded a statement from the trader, in his 30s, to assist investigations under Section 8(2)(b)of the Trade Descriptions Act.
Rizq Fazliana said action would be taken against premises selling fake goods and advised members of the public to be careful when buying such items.
Meanwhile, Southern Tigers Sdn Bhd General Manager Raja Fouzeel Akmal Raja Zainal urged traders to seek permission from the company before selling goods related to the JDT Southern Tigers brand.
Raja Fouzeel said the company had detected the sale of songkok with the fake logo two years ago and lodged a complaint this year after the JDT Southern Tigers brand was registered last year.
“Southern Tigers Sdn Bhd actually had never produced songkok to be sold to the public.
“The official products on sale are jerseys, T-shirts, mufflers, mugs and caps,” he said.
