In the same period, 240 men were suspended for offences such as shirking their duties, corruption and misconduct, said the report, quoting Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Commissioner Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman.
The police have also fired 25 personnel so far this year.
According to Jalaluddin, 38 senior officers and 301 personnel are also being probed for drug-related offences, crime, corruption and misconduct.
He said the police do not only compile information of misconduct of their men from the public, but from non-governmental organisations and agencies as well, in order to weed out the bad apples in the force.
Among the agencies are the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Suhakam.
“Between July 2014 and February this year, JIPS received 677 reports from eight agencies on police misconduct. Out of the figure, 409 reports came from the MACC,” Jalaluddin was quoted as saying.
