PETALING JAYA:
A 20-year-old man, enraged at having to top-up the deposit for his suite at a five-star hotel, pulled out a gun and aimed it directly at a front-desk staff, verbally abusing him and insisting his stay be extended with no questions asked.

The horrifying incident took place on Tuesday when the man, suspected to have been at a drug-fuelled sex party in one of the hotel rooms, walked to the front-desk to extend his stay. He had been staying in the hotel since Saturday.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Abdul Hamid Mohd Ali told Malay Mail the suspect became furious at being told he would have to pay an additional RM124.30 as the deposit of RM1,100 he had paid earlier was insufficient.

“The suspect immediately pulled out a gun, cocked it and pointed it at the staff. He verbally abused him and demanded his stay be extended without any questions asked,” the news portal quoted him as saying.

Abdul Hamid also explained that another hotel staff upon seeing the gun, tried to calm down the suspect and later walked him back to his room, assuring him his stay would be extended as requested.

The suspect held the semi-automatic Walther P99 in his right hand the entire time and even brandished it at a room service assistant who walked past him.

Another room service assistant was also threatened when he delivered food to the suspect’s suite, the news portal said.

Police raided the suite when a police report was lodged regarding the incident and arrested three Indonesian men, an Indonesian woman and six Malaysians.

They also seized a plastic packet containing 2.1gm of syabu and were told by the suspect that he no longer had the gun in his possession as it belonged to his relative, a 53-year-old Assistant Superintendent (ASP).

The ASP was transferred from the federal narcotics department to the Klang police station four months ago.

“After failing to contact the policeman, investigators alerted his superiors who managed to reach him. The ASP showed up at the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 7.20pm on Tuesday and surrendered the gun,” Abdul Hamid told Malay Mail.

“Upon reporting himself, he tested positive for amphetamine.”

Both the suspect and the ASP are now in police custody.

Abdul Hamid said the main suspect will be remanded until Sunday while the police officer has been temporarily suspended until investigations are concluded.
