SUNGAI BESAR:
Amanah has accused PAS of being “petty” after the Islamist party’s Vice-President Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah criticised the former’s logo and official colour.

Amanah Secretary-General Anuar Tahir said PAS should walk the talk about practising mature politics and refrain from mudslinging, in reference to the call made by the Islamist party’s president for a greater display of political maturity.

“It has become petty. I think even The Netherlands football team has yet to complain to us for wearing orange.

“We did not say anything about their logo.

“I hope all parties will respect each other,” he told a press conference at Amanah’s Sungai Besar office today.

Dutch football players wear orange jerseys, while the team is sometimes referred to as the Oranjes.

Amanah’s logo is orange in colour.

Last night, Amar, who is also the Kelantan deputy menteri besar, urged Kuala Kangsar voters not to vote Amanah.

He lambasted the PAS splinter party for choosing the colour orange, which he said was similar to the saffron attire worn by Buddhist monks.

He also said the party’s logo appeared to be the same as that of a Tamil channel in India, Imayam TV, and described Amanah as “nanar” or “mad”.

In a related matter, Amanah also played down the appearance of Sungai Besar PAS candidate Rani Osman at a Pakatan Harapan event yesterday.

PAS is not part of the Opposition pact.

Amanah Strategy Director Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said Rani’s attendance merely showed how “friendly” the rivalries were in Sungai Besar.

“For us, friends are still friends,” he said referring to the friendship between Rani and his former party members as well as Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.
