Tioman rape suspect tests positive for syabu

Civil servant who is in police custody for the gang rape of a 16-year-old has tested positive for drugs.

PETALING JAYA:
The civil servant alleged to have been involved in the gang rape of a teenager in Pulau Tioman earlier this year tested positive for methamphetamine (syabu).

Sin Chew Daily quoted Rompin police chief Superintendent Muhammad Aidil Roneh Abdullah as saying the DNA sample of the 26-year-old suspect had been sent for analysis.

To date, six other suspects detained in relation to the rape of the 16-year-old, including a woman, have been released on police bail.

The civil servant surrendered to police Saturday night upon request by his superior.

This was after the Form Four victim, who worked part-time at the Kampung Tekek jetty in the island, claimed she had been drugged and repeatedly raped between March and May this year by the suspect, who she had named, and several security guards.

The suspect, reportedly a Customs officer, had threatened he would take action against her and her father should she report the matter to the authorities.

She only reported her ordeals after her father forced her to do so.

Following news reports of the incident, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi pledged no one would be let off the hook in the incident, even if it involved a civil servant.
